Cofepris Issues Sanitary Alert Over Falsified Gran Centenario Añejo

The regulator identified lot L 061 24 (950 mL) as counterfeit and warned bottles sold online may pose a health risk.

Overview

  • Cofepris issued the alert Tuesday after sanitary checks and a comparecencia with Casa Cuervo identified irregularities in Gran Centenario Añejo, specifying the notice applies only to lot L 061 24 in the 950 mL presentation.
  • The agency said the suspect bottles were sold on online platforms and do not meet the NOM-142-SSA/SCFI-2014 standards because their ingredients and production conditions are unknown, creating a potential health hazard.
  • Cofepris listed two visible authenticity defects to spot the falsified product: the front label lacks the usual embossed relief and the cap shows signs of detachment.
  • Consumers are advised not to buy bottles matching that lot and to inspect labels, the SAT fiscal marbete or QR code, seals, caps and bottle condition before purchasing; distributors must keep invoices and report suspicious stock.
  • Authorities say investigations and sanitary surveillance will continue and no confirmed hospitalizations linked to this lot have been reported so far.
