Code Yellow in North as Cold, Changeable Week Brings Snow Risk

Forecasters say a shifting boundary between cold and milder air will determine where precipitation falls as snow versus rain.

Overview

  • KNMI’s yellow warning for Groningen, Drenthe and Overijssel is in effect through Monday afternoon for light snow and slippery roads, with 1–2 centimeters possible.
  • Light snow was reported Monday morning in parts of the Achterhoek near the German border as a small snow zone moved west.
  • From Tuesday a south-to-north band of precipitation is expected, likely falling as rain in many regions with temperatures above freezing, while the north stays cold enough for snow.
  • A larger snow area is forecast to move in from Germany Wednesday evening into Thursday, though its track, timing and amounts remain uncertain.
  • Daytime highs sit near 3–4°C with subfreezing nights and notable wind chill before a late-week rise toward 5–7°C; northern areas could see around 10 centimeters of accumulation through Friday, according to local meteorologists.
