Cocaine-Tainted €84,250 Seized on A3 During Customs Stop

Prosecutors have ordered Munich customs investigators to trace the cash’s origin.

Overview

  • Customs officers from the Verkehrswege unit in Plattling stopped a Slovak-registered car at the A3 rest area Bayerischer Wald Nord and found a garbage bag of bundled banknotes totaling €84,250 in a box on the back seat.
  • Rapid drug tests on both the cash and the 32-year-old driver returned positive results for cocaine, prompting an intensive search with two trained dogs.
  • No additional narcotics were found in the vehicle during the search by cash- and drug-detection dogs, according to the customs office.
  • Officers provisionally seized the money and opened a criminal case on suspicion of money laundering, while a clearing procedure began to verify where the cash came from and what it was meant for.
  • The Zollfahndungsamt München took over the case for the Regensburg public prosecutor, and officials noted the driver’s claim that he was ferrying the carton to Frankfurt for someone else as the region reports other large cash finds.
