Cocaine-Positive Driver Jailed for Fatal Worcester Crash After Guilty Plea

Police said his drug use aggravated dangerous driving that cost a motorist his life.

Overview

  • Ben Woodland was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court on February 6, 2026 to eight years and three months for causing death by dangerous driving.
  • He also received an additional four months in prison for drug driving, 10 penalty points, and a driving disqualification of five years extended by five years and six months with a re-test.
  • The collision occurred on April 29, 2024 on the A4538 Pershore Lane near M5 junction 6 when Woodland failed to negotiate a left-hand bend and entered the opposite carriageway.
  • Mark Webb, 57, was confirmed dead at the scene, and four men were treated for potentially serious injuries and taken to Worcester Royal Hospital.
  • Woodland failed a roadside drug wipe for cocaine and a subsequent blood test found him significantly over the limit, with police calling his driving appalling and stressing the sentence as a deterrent.
