Coast Guard Searches Río de la Plata for Five Missing From Boat Chamigo-Ho

Prefectura Naval Argentina deployed ships, an aircraft, land teams to locate the vessel under an 'averiguación de paradero' investigation led by Berazategui prosecutors.

Overview

  • The recreational boat Chamigo-Ho left the Hudson riverfront to fish on Sunday and never returned, prompting family members to file a missing-person complaint.
  • Prefectura Naval Argentina is leading an active multi-platform search that uses the guardacostas GC-73 and GC-75, a semirrígido, an aircraft, personal watercraft and terrestrial units along the Río de la Plata between the Port of Buenos Aires and La Plata.
  • Three of the five occupants have been identified as Carlos Kovach, Claudio Kovach and Alejandro Boscardin while two other men remain unnamed by authorities.
  • Reports say the boat carried life jackets, flares, GPS, a VHF radio and cell phones yet repeated attempts by family and the service to reach the occupants by telephone and VHF produced no response.
  • The case is being handled by Unidad Funcional de Instrucción y Juicio N°4 in Berazategui under fiscal Silvia Noemí Borrone and families are coordinating with search teams as officials continue to expand the search area and pursue leads.
