Overview
- Jaggers, an aviation survival technician from Air Station Astoria, was part of an MH-60 Jayhawk crew responding Feb. 27 to evacuate a stroke patient from the commercial vessel Momi Arrow about 120 nautical miles west of Cape Flattery, Washington.
- He was seriously hurt during deployment toward the ship, according to the Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue Swimmer Association, while the service has not yet released specifics on how the injuries occurred.
- After initial treatment at Victoria General Hospital in British Columbia and placement on life support, he was transferred to Madigan Army Medical Center in Washington on March 3 and died from his injuries on March 5.
- In a ceremony at his bedside attended by family and crewmates, he was meritoriously advanced to petty officer second class and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism in aerial flight.
