Overview
- The U.S. Coast Guard awarded Davie Defense a contract for five Arctic Security Cutters, completing contract awards under the program authorized for up to eleven vessels.
- Two of the new cutters will be built at Helsinki Shipyard in Finland, with the remaining three to be constructed at Davie’s facilities in Galveston and Port Arthur, Texas.
- Building the initial ships in Finland is intended to meet an accelerated schedule, with the first cutter targeted for delivery in 2028.
- Officials said American shipbuilders will work alongside Helsinki’s icebreaker specialists to support efficient construction of the U.S.-based ships.
- Earlier awards in December 2025 went to Rauma Marine Constructions for two cutters and to Bollinger Shipyards to construct four in Louisiana, rounding out the 11-ship plan backed by a presidential memorandum.
