Overview
- An empty general/Antyodaya coach of the Jaynagar–Udhna Express caught fire and was completely gutted while stationary at Platform No. 3 in Madhubani on Thursday.
- No passengers or staff were injured because the train had been held at the station for maintenance and the affected coach was empty.
- Local witnesses alerted the station master and fire brigade crews brought the blaze under control after the coach was largely damaged.
- Divisional Railway Manager Jyoti Prakash Mishra travelled to the site and ordered a high-level inquiry that will involve safety, electrical, operations, security, and RPF teams.
- Railway officials say a short circuit is the preliminary cause but the probe will also examine maintenance procedures and the possibility of anti-social or malicious involvement.
