Co-op Opens 11 Stores in One Week as £1bn ‘Back Britain’ Drive Kicks Off

The push follows Budget business-rates support, with Co-op pledging price cuts on 1,000-plus items plus greater spend with British farmers.

Overview

  • The new sites include Bristol, London and the Scottish Highlands, with Co-op becoming the first permanent retailer at the Brent Cross Town development.
  • This wave forms part of roughly 50 openings scheduled for November and December and a wider 2024/25 plan for more than 200 new or transformed shops.
  • Prices will drop on over 1,000 products nationwide for the next 12 months, applying to members and non-members under the £1bn plan.
  • Co-op says it will direct more than £700m a year to British farmers and invest in around 100 additional store openings, refits and relocations over the next year.
  • The retailer highlights a £38m annual spend on crime prevention, continued services such as parcel collection, free ATMs and rapid delivery, and a target of 7,000 matched apprenticeships by 2030.
