CNTE Teachers Briefly Breach Fenced Zócalo Soccer Field Ahead of Sunday Megaclass

The action previewed a 72-hour national strike the dissident union has called for March 18–20.

Overview

  • Roughly 100 teachers opened a section of fencing, reached near the Zócalo flagpole and briefly halted painting work before leaving within minutes.
  • Protesters demanded the reversal of what they called unjustified pay deductions for participation in CNTE walkouts and pressed for long-delayed teacher basification affecting thousands of interim staff.
  • Union members reiterated demands that include abrogation of the 2007 ISSSTE law and cited earlier warnings about potential disruption of World Cup–related activities.
  • A protesting teacher accused the AEFCM, led by Luciano Concheiro, of favoring the SNTE under Alfonso Cepeda and violating procedures in personnel assignments, including replacing interim teachers.
  • The breach occurred during installation of synthetic turf for a March 15 Guinness-record soccer class at the Zócalo, following an earlier demonstration on Calzada de Tlalpan.
