Overview
- Mexico’s Servicio Sismológico Nacional recorded a string of small-to-moderate quakes on July 14–16, with a M4.4 offshore of Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, on July 14 and a M4.3 near Pijijiapan, Chiapas, early on July 16.
- Peru’s Instituto Geofísico del Perú through CENSIS logged six tremors in the Ica region on July 14 with magnitudes from 3.6 to 4.6, the largest reaching M4.6 southwest of Ica.
- Reported focal depths varied widely from very shallow (about 2–12 km) to intermediate depths over 100 km, a factor that changed how strongly different communities felt each quake.
- Local Protección Civil units in the affected Mexican states carried out routine inspections and issued preparedness guidance, and officials reported no material damage or injuries from the reported events.
- The sequence fits normal tectonic behavior along the Pacific Ring of Fire, and national agencies say they will keep real-time monitoring active and rely on technical parameters to decide if any alerts or emergency actions are needed.
