Climber Found Dead on Pedraforca’s Canal Roja After Night Search

Specialized Catalan rescuers followed snow traces to locate the body after relatives reported him missing.

  • Emergency services received an alert at 21:34 reporting loss of contact with a man who had set out to climb the mountain’s north face.
  • Roughly twenty personnel across ten units were deployed, including GRAE mountain teams, search dogs, drone crews and a mobile command post.
  • The refuge guard at Lluís Estasen confirmed the climber’s vehicle at the Mirador de Gresolet, guiding the search toward the base of the Canal Roja.
  • After 1 a.m., teams followed a snow track, found climbing accessories and then located the victim with signs incompatible with life.
  • Mossos d'Esquadra secured the area overnight, the Berga investigative unit took charge, and a UIM helicopter was scheduled to recover the body as SEM provided medical and psychological support.
