Overview
- Summer Streets held its final car-free routes in Brooklyn and the Bronx on Saturday, with public programming from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., DOT street closures from 5 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and parking restricted until 6 p.m.
- The DOT closed long stretches of Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn and the Grand Concourse in the Bronx to create space for cycling, walking and family activities.
- MTA buses were rerouted for the Summer Streets finale and the transit authority has said it will run extra subway and Long Island Rail Road trains to handle increased demand for the US Open.
- The NYPD announced heightened security for the tournament and said it may impose discretionary road closures in Queens through Sept. 13 that could affect the Grand Central Parkway, BQE, Cross Island, LIE, Whitestone and Van Wyck expressways.
- City officials urged fans to avoid driving because on-site parking is limited, a change that could raise traffic and delay commutes as roads, parking and bus routes are adjusted for both events.
