City Begins Street Closures for Taste of Chicago Setup as Grant Park Gears Up for July Festival

The festival returns to its traditional July slot after the NASCAR Chicago Street Race paused and the staged closures will allow crews to build vendor areas and performance stages

Overview

  • Curb-lane restrictions on Columbus Drive began Monday as crews started phased setup for the 46th annual Taste of Chicago in Grant Park.
  • Full street closures are set to begin at 6 a.m. on July 2 for Columbus Drive and Ida B. Wells Drive and at 6 a.m. on July 5 for Jackson Drive and additional Columbus segments.
  • Taste of Chicago will run July 8 through July 12 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily and is reported to include free performances by Common, Beach Bunny and Babyface.
  • The Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications says all affected streets will reopen by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, July 13, and officials are urging commuters to plan alternate routes or allow extra travel time.
  • The festival’s move back to July follows a pause of the NASCAR Chicago Street Race for 2026, returning the event to its traditional summer timing and restoring expected summer traffic patterns for downtown residents and businesses.
