Citroën Launches eC3X in India With Battery‑as‑a‑Service Option

A package of styling, tech and safety upgrades is paired with a pay‑as‑you‑drive battery plan intended to cut the upfront cost for buyers.

Overview

  • Citroën India launched the refreshed eC3X Wednesday and opened bookings online and at dealerships with two buying routes: a full‑purchase price of Rs. 10.25 lakh (ex‑showroom) or a Battery‑as‑a‑Service (BaaS) entry price of Rs. 6.89 lakh plus a Rs. 2.26 per kilometre battery usage charge.
  • The eC3X retains the same 29.2 kWh battery and a front motor making about 56–57 bhp and 143 Nm, while the company now claims a MIDC range of roughly 325 km on a single charge despite the unchanged pack.
  • Exterior and interior upgrades include LED projector headlamps, 15‑inch diamond‑cut wheels, a 10.25‑inch touchscreen, a 7‑inch TFT driver display, wireless phone charging, an electrochromic inside rear‑view mirror and six airbags on the top trim.
  • Under BaaS Citroën separates the battery cost from the vehicle purchase and charges battery use per kilometre in a dual‑loan or subscription structure to lower the initial outlay and offer a predictable running cost; the company cites maintenance at about Rs. 0.19 per km.
  • The eC3X is pitched to strengthen Citroën’s position in the entry‑level EV market but faces strong rivals such as the Tata Punch EV that offer larger batteries, similar BaaS choices and a wider dealer network, so customer uptake and total cost‑of‑ownership comparisons will be key in the weeks after launch.
