Overview
- CISF formally assumed security responsibility for Safdarjung Airport on Wednesday and began a phased handover using an Internal Security Duty Pattern to keep VVIP operations running.
- The takeover replaces duties previously done by Delhi Police and Nagaland Police and was marked by a handover ceremony attended by senior CISF and AAI officials.
- The force has deployed an initial armed contingent and plans to scale to a permanent 136-person unit led by a Deputy Commandant to secure the facility.
- CISF will patrol the roughly 3.8-kilometre perimeter and install technical measures including a Perimeter Intrusion Detection System, CCTV, baggage X-rays, boom barriers, hydraulic bollards, tyre killers, road blockers and under-vehicle scanners.
- The move responds to security concerns about the airport’s exposed, road-facing runway, nearby dense vegetation and residential areas and continues a long-term MHA policy to centralise civil aviation protection under CISF.
