CISF Repels Attack on BJP MLA Pawan Singh’s Home in West Bengal

The confrontation highlights how tense campaign season is testing VIP protection in the state.

Overview

  • The assault on Pawan Singh’s Bhatpara home was reported Sunday night, according to the CISF.
  • Before the house was targeted, CISF teams evacuated Pawan Singh and his father, Arjun Singh, from a confrontation near Jagatdal Police Station.
  • The CISF said attackers hurled stones and country-made bombs, and Sub-Inspector Rakesh Kumar fired in self-defence to protect the MLA.
  • Constable Yogesh suffered a bullet wound in his left calf, was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Kolkata, and is reported stable after visits by senior CISF and BSF chiefs.
  • The incident comes as West Bengal heads into the next voting phase on April 29, and the CISF notes it guards about 198 centrally listed VIPs under the Home Ministry.
