Overview
- This week CHS announced plans to invest $700 million to build a soybean crushing and processing facility on a site near Evansville, Wisconsin.
- The plant is designed to handle about 80 million bushels of soybeans a year and is expected to produce roughly 2 million tons of soybean meal and 1 billion pounds of soybean oil annually.
- CHS said construction is due to begin in the coming weeks with the facility targeted to open in fall 2028 and that the project will create about 80 permanent jobs plus hundreds of construction positions.
- Under a development agreement with the city, CHS could receive up to $55 million in tax-increment financing with an additional $20 million tied to benchmarks and it agreed to generate at least $110 million in taxable property value; the state economic development agency reported no separate incentive deal.
- The plant would process most of Wisconsin’s annual soybean crop capacity and is expected to boost local basis for farmers while supplying more soybean meal for livestock feed and strengthening the state’s food-processing sector.
