Chrysler Recalls 17,277 Pacifica Plug-In Hybrids Over Battery Fire Risk

Investigators attribute the hazard to cells from an alternate LG Energy Solution assembly line that can fail internally, triggering thermal runaway.

Overview

  • Chrysler issued the recall in early June for 2020–2022 Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid models after regulators flagged a potential high-voltage battery defect affecting 17,277 vehicles.
  • Owners are being told not to charge affected vehicles and to park them outdoors and away from buildings until dealers inspect and repair the cars.
  • Recall documents link the problem to battery cells produced on a limited alternate LG Energy Solution production line and note four known fire incidents with no reported injuries.
  • Dealers will deploy a Battery Pack Control Module software update, inspect packs and replace any defective battery packs free of charge, and Chrysler will extend warranty coverage for related battery warnings to unlimited years and miles.
  • Chrysler estimates about 1% of recalled vehicles may carry the defect and investigators for Chrysler and LG are continuing a months-long probe; owners should expect dealer notices starting June 11 and owner letters around June 23.
