Overview
- Google announced that Chrome will use its Gemini AI to surface autofill suggestions drawn from a user’s Gmail messages.
- The autofill can pull specific items such as flight confirmations, membership IDs, tracking and order numbers, addresses, phone numbers and credit card numbers.
- The feature is rolling out first to U.S. users on desktop and in Gemini-enabled Chrome on iOS and Android.
- Users must enable the capability in Chrome settings and Google says sensitive data will be encrypted when used for autofill.
- The change builds on Google’s Personal Intelligence effort to link apps with Gemini and could boost convenience and browser retention while prompting fresh scrutiny over AI access to personal email.
