- Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik met with Shandong Xinxu chairman Hou Jianxin on Thursday, and the government directed the Petroleum Division to appoint focal persons to follow up on the proposals.
- Shandong Xinxu presented a multi-sector package covering upstream oil and gas work, offshore exploration, refinery upgrades, an energy-equipment plant, sulphur processing and lead mining.
- The company proposed installing Fluid Catalytic Cracking units to convert low-value furnace oil into higher-value fuels such as petrol and diesel, which would raise refinery yields.
- Officials stress the plans are proposals at this stage and will need feasibility studies, environmental clearances, commercial negotiations and financing before any binding deals are signed.
- If implemented, the projects could cut fuel imports, ease pressure on foreign exchange reserves and create local jobs, but those gains depend on timely approvals and successful execution.
