Overview
- The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said Friday it is investigating Politburo member Ma Xingrui for suspected serious violations of law and party rules.
- The watchdog described a party disciplinary review and a supervisory investigation but released no details on the allegations.
- Ma remains a member in name only as the probe unfolds, after no appearances in state broadcaster footage since the party’s Fourth Plenum in October, including the annual parliament meeting in March.
- The investigation follows the January probe of top general Zhang Youxia and last year's expulsion of He Weidong that cut the 24-seat Politburo to 23.
- Ma was removed as Xinjiang party chief in July and also holds a deputy role on the Central Rural Work Leading Group, which steers rural policy.
