Overview
- Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Defense Minister Dong Jun and Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong will be in Vietnam from March 15 to 17 for high-level talks.
- They will meet their Vietnamese counterparts to discuss bilateral political and security cooperation, combating crime, defense collaboration, and the international and regional situation.
- China’s foreign ministry said the visit aims to strengthen strategic communication and deepen strategic coordination between the two neighbors.
- The meetings launch the 3+3 format first outlined in April 2025 during Xi Jinping’s talks with To Lam, when the sides signed 45 agreements on supply chains, artificial intelligence, joint maritime patrols and railway development.
- The trip comes after satellite images circulated on social media suggested new land reclamation at Antelope Reef in the disputed Paracel Islands, a fresh source of tension even as economic ties remain close.
