China Executes 11 Tied to Myanmar Cyberfraud Rings After Supreme Court Approval

Beijing presents the punishments as a step in a broader drive to dismantle borderland scam hubs that coerce trafficked workers.

Overview

  • State media said the executions were carried out in Wenzhou following death sentences issued there and upheld by the Supreme People’s Court.
  • The convictions covered offenses including murder, intentional injury, illegal detention, fraud and casino operations, with evidence for crimes dating back to 2015 deemed conclusive.
  • Among those executed were members of the Ming Family group, which authorities say was linked to 14 deaths and is estimated to have profited more than 10 billion yuan.
  • Close relatives were permitted to meet the condemned before the executions, according to Xinhua’s account of the proceedings.
  • Officials frame the cases within a yearslong campaign targeting Myanmar-based online fraud centers that exploit trafficked workers, supported by expanded regional cooperation and large-scale repatriations.
