Overview
- China put seven European defense and aerospace firms on its export control list in direct response to the EU’s latest Russia sanctions package.
- The ban covers Chinese dual-use goods, and Beijing said it targeted companies tied to arms sales to Taiwan or work with Taiwanese authorities under its Export Control Law.
- Named firms include Belgian arms maker FN Herstal, German defense electronics group Hensoldt, and Czech company Excalibur Army, which said it does not expect a material impact.
- The EU’s 20th sanctions package focuses on curbing evasion by listing 16 entities in China, the UAE, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Belarus for supplying dual-use items or weapons to Russia’s defense industry.
- The package also prepares export limits for 60 more entities that boost Russia’s defense technology, including some in mainland China and Hong Kong.
