Overview
- A statement by Prefect Jaime Lazo said dactyloscopic analyses by the Brigada de Homicidios and the regional criminalistics lab established the remains are those of 17-year-old Alejandro Cabrera Iturriaga.
- The Lancha de Servicio General de Coquimbo recovered the body during a routine fisheries patrol near the Cuatro Esquinas sector, roughly 500–650 meters from where he was last seen.
- Following established protocol, the patrol notified the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the remains were transferred to the Muelle de Pasajeros and then to the Servicio Médico Legal for examination.
- Alejandro disappeared on November 17 after strong currents pulled him out to sea while he was in the water with relatives; four companions were rescued by bystanders, including Francisco Boldo.
- Authorities had suspended the active search earlier in the week, but instructions to keep watch during routine patrols led to the discovery and the conclusion of the search phase.
