Chiefs Drop GEHA Naming and Restore Arrowhead Stadium

Overview

  • The Kansas City Chiefs and the Government Employees Health Association issued a joint announcement Wednesday that the official name will revert to Arrowhead Stadium for the 2026 season.
  • GEHA agreed to remove the naming-rights label that had read GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium since 2021 while remaining an active partner for programs like the Chiefs Military Mission, Joe Delaney Learn to Swim, TeamSmile, and Kingdom Kids.
  • Team president Mark Donovan and GEHA EVP Raj Vavilala framed the decision as mutual and aimed at honoring Arrowhead’s history after fans, players, and coaches largely continued to call the venue by its original name.
  • The naming-rights agreement had been scheduled to run through 2031 but was ended by mutual consent with financial terms not disclosed, and the Chiefs will stay at Arrowhead under their current lease until 2031.
  • After 2031 the franchise plans to move into a roughly 70,000-seat, privately financed domed stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas, a roughly $3 billion project for which the team has released renderings and selected an architect.
