Chicago Shootings Leave 4 Dead and 1 Critically Hurt in West Garfield Park and Calumet Heights

Police have opened separate investigations with suspects still at large.

  • A vehicle attack on the 4000 block of West Maypole Avenue at about 4:45 p.m. left three people dead and one man in critical condition outside a barbershop and a corner store.
  • Police said a car pulled up, at least two people got out, and they opened fire on four people standing on the sidewalk.
  • Victims in West Garfield Park included a 32-year-old woman who died at Stroger Hospital, a 36-year-old man pronounced at the scene, a male of unknown age who died at Mount Sinai, and a 35-year-old man in critical condition at Stroger.
  • Earlier that day, a 44-year-old man was shot multiple times while sitting in a vehicle near a KFC drive-thru in Calumet Heights and later died at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
  • Area Four detectives are investigating the West Garfield Park shooting, Area Two detectives are handling the Calumet Heights case, and no arrests or suspect details have been released.
