Chicago Resumes Spring Bridge Lifts Wednesday

Brief, scheduled lifts let recreational boats move through downtown with minimal traffic delays.

Overview

CDOT, which restarts the seasonal bridge lifts Wednesday, will raise 27 movable bridges from South Ashland Avenue to DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
The lifts run twice a week with 9 a.m. starts on Wednesdays and 8 a.m. starts on Saturdays.
Crews raise one bridge at a time, and each opening lasts about 8 to 12 minutes.
The spring schedule continues through June 24, with no lifts on May 23 or June 20.
Road traffic stops during each lift, so drivers may wait or use other routes until the bridge lowers.
