Chicago Releases Official Fly-Through of O’Hare’s $1.3 Billion Concourse D

The 19-gate satellite marks the first phase of ORDNext with completion targeted for late 2028.

Overview

  • An SOM-led team with Ross Barney, JGMA and Arup designed a skylit concourse centered on The Orchard with branching columns and multi-level amenities.
  • Located just south of Concourse C, the 580,000-square-foot facility will connect by tunnel and frame views of the airfield and the city.
  • Nineteen flexible gates can serve either two narrow-body aircraft or a single wide-body to improve gate utilization.
  • International arrivals will route via a suspended sterile corridor to a passport control center planned later in the program.
  • City leaders reordered the larger $8–8.2 billion program to build the satellite first under airline budget and scope oversight, while a 110-location concessions rollout has bids under review with awards expected by late March.
