Overview
- The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events is accepting tree nominations through Oct. 23 and vendor applications for the Millennium Park Holiday Market through 5 p.m. on Oct. 18.
- Eligible trees must be at least 45 feet tall, located within 50 miles of the Loop with preference for those inside 15 miles, and the city prefers Norway spruce or fir while excluding pine for safety reasons.
- Owners should email dcase@cityofchicago.org with their contact details, a short history of the tree and at least two photos—one close-up and one from afar—to enter the selection process.
- The winning tree will be transported to Millennium Park, decorated for the public lighting ceremony on Nov. 20 when park festivities begin at 4 p.m. and the ceremony and fireworks are expected around 6:30 p.m., and it will remain lit through Jan. 10.
- Local artists and small businesses can apply to sell at the Holiday Market on Nov. 20–22, providing a commerce opportunity tied to the city’s seasonal programming and visitor traffic in downtown Chicago.
