Overview
- The Feb. 14 sweep in Cintalapa, conducted under the Cintalapa Seguro initiative after intelligence work, led to the capture of 12 suspects who authorities say are tied to the Cártel Chiapas–Guatemala.
- Officers confiscated two homemade rifles (.22 and .410), a homemade .22 pistol, 13 cartridges, 59 packets of suspected crystal meth, 19 packets of suspected cocaine, 19 marijuana cigarettes and an Italika motorcycle.
- An adapted wooden plank consistent with tools used for coercive punishment was also seized, and the detainees reportedly stated they belonged to the cartel.
- The operation involved state units FRIP and the Guardia Estatal Preventiva with investigative support from the AIIM of the state prosecutor’s office plus elements of the Mexican Army and National Guard.
- In a separate Feb. 16 action in Arriaga, three men from Guerrero were arrested with AK‑47‑type rifles, loaded magazines, drugs, cash and a motorcycle, and they claimed cartel affiliation as well as involvement in narcomenudeo, extortion and protection rackets.
