Chevy Revives LS Name With 6.7-Liter LS6 for 2027 Corvette

The move signals GM’s bet that a stronger base V8 will anchor most Corvette sales.

Overview

  • Chevrolet introduced a new small-block V8 for the 2027 Corvette, a 6.7-liter LS6 rated at 535 horsepower and 520 pound-feet of torque, which The Drive reports is the highest torque figure for any factory naturally aspirated V8.
  • The engine will power the base Stingray and a returning Grand Sport, and a new all-wheel-drive Grand Sport X hybrid is set to replace the E-Ray with about 721 horsepower reported.
  • Key hardware changes include a longer stroke that raises displacement, a 13:1 compression ratio, dual injectors for each cylinder, a larger 95 mm throttle body, forged pistons and rods, revised coolant flow, and Tri‑Y exhaust manifolds.
  • GM will build the LS6 at its Flint, Michigan engine plant, and Chevrolet says the 2027 Stingray and Grand Sport are due at dealers in late summer 2026 with the Grand Sport X to follow a few months later, with pricing still unannounced.
  • Chevrolet expects the three LS6-powered models to make up roughly 70% of Corvette sales, reflecting the car’s role as a halo that shapes GM’s broader performance and powertrain strategy.
