Chery Stockman to Launch in Australia With 350 kW Diesel Plug‑In Hybrid

The diesel PHEV is pitched to combine long electric driving with conventional diesel towing and off‑road ability.

Overview

  • Chery Australia confirmed the Stockman will reach showrooms in Q4 2026 and that its Diesel Super Hybrid system pairs a 2.5‑litre turbo‑diesel with a plug‑in hybrid system to drive all four wheels.
  • The company published headline outputs of 350 kW and 800 Nm and a claimed electric‑only range of up to 100 km under the NEDC test cycle.
  • Chery rates the Stockman’s towing at 3,500 kg braked and 750 kg unbraked and says the ute uses double‑wishbone front suspension, heavy‑duty rear leaf springs, at least 247 mm ground clearance, all‑terrain tyres and selectable front, centre and rear diffs to support off‑road and work use.
  • The Stockman is full‑size at 5,450 mm long, 2,010 mm wide and a 3,250 mm wheelbase with a 1,560 mm square cargo tub, but key data such as battery capacity, separate diesel and motor outputs, transmission type, final payloads, pricing and model grades will be revealed closer to launch.
  • Chery plans a petrol plug‑in hybrid variant for 2027 and its diesel PHEV approach could change buying choices by offering electric driving without abandoning diesel towing range, though real‑world electric range may be lower than the NEDC claim.
