Chemical Incident at Coleraine Grammar Sends Three Staff to Hospital

Officials say the scene is contained with cleanup planned.

  • The chemical release that hit the Castlerock Road campus Tuesday led to three staff being taken to Causeway Hospital.
  • Ambulance, fire and police teams mounted a large response that included six fire appliances and specialist Hazardous Area Response Teams.
  • NIAS said it dispatched a rapid response paramedic, three emergency crews, an advanced paramedic, a HART crew and officer, and two ambulance officers after a 4:15 pm 999 call.
  • Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and gas monitors before beginning to leave at 7:50 pm.
  • The school said no pupils were on site due to the Easter holiday, and it plans a full clean-up as officials have not released a cause.
