Cheetah KP-2 Tranquilised in Ranthambore, Returned to Kuno

Frequent cross-border roaming is testing joint wildlife teams.

Overview

  • KP-2, which was darted Friday in Ranthambore’s Phalodi range, was moved back to Kuno after a veterinary check.
  • Forest officials had tracked KP-2 for about three weeks inside the reserve’s core, where they said it hunted small prey and at times cattle.
  • In Dholpur, a second cheetah that reportedly killed a cow is under close watch, with teams preparing to tranquilise it and send it back as patrols and village alerts expand.
  • Officials are also tracking KP-3 in Baran district, focusing on the Atru and Chhabra areas.
  • The roaming fits a pattern of Kuno cheetahs crossing the Chambal into Rajasthan’s farm and village belts, which has driven tighter coordination between Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan teams.
