Chase Matthew Bassist Carsen Richards Arrested on Child Sex Charges After Kentucky Festival

Police staged the arrest after learning he might carry a gun.

Overview

  • Richards, who performed at Owensboro’s BBQ & Barrels, was arrested Saturday after he left the stage and before he reached the tour bus.
  • Court and jail records list four charges in Clark County—two counts of second-degree sodomy and two counts of incest involving a person under 18 by someone three or more years older.
  • Owensboro police coordinated with Winchester detectives and executed a planned pickup because they were told Richards often had firearms, and officers later said he was unarmed at the time.
  • The case began when the boy’s mother reported abuse to Winchester police in November 2025, with the child confirming in a December interview that Richards assaulted him in 2020 and 2022 when he was 12 and 14 and diagnosed with autism.
  • Following the arrest, country singer Chase Matthew removed Richards from his band and condemned the alleged conduct, while Richards remains jailed at the Daviess County Detention Center on a $75,000 cash bond and faces up to about 10 years if convicted.
