Charlotte Boyfriend Charged With Murder, Rape After Teen Found Bound

A homicide ruling backed by evidence of prolonged abuse now underpins the case.

Overview

  • Police found 19-year-old Isabella Alexandria Stroupe unresponsive and restrained inside a home in east Charlotte.
  • The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide and reported stab wounds, multiple fractures, and injuries that pointed to months of torture.
  • Officers arrested her boyfriend, 24-year-old Thomaz Kenon Hamilton, on first-degree murder and first-degree rape charges, and he remains in custody with no public record yet of a plea or attorney.
  • A police affidavit says Hamilton told investigators he thought she had a heart attack during sex, and it lists a bloodied knife, a baseball bat, a sword, broken phones, and blood-stained bedding and clothes recovered from the home.
  • Investigators are processing the evidence and a court appearance is set for later in May as Stroupe’s family raises funeral funds through a GoFundMe.
