Charges Follow Sydney Night of Violence With Officer Hurt, Two Men Shot

Police created Strike Force Skrit to probe the Chester Hill shooting, issuing a public appeal.

Overview

  • Following Wednesday night's incidents across western and south‑west Sydney, a 32-year-old linked to the Greenacre stop was charged with eight offences and is due in Bankstown Local Court on Friday.
  • Riot police in Greenacre approached a Toyota C‑HR believed stolen from Riverwood when the driver allegedly pinned a 39-year-old sergeant between cars, prompting the officer to fire at the vehicle.
  • The Toyota was later found abandoned in Ryde and a 32-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his shoulder and wrist was located in a backyard and taken to hospital in a stable condition under police guard.
  • In a separate shooting on Campbell Hill Road in Chester Hill, shots were fired from a black ute into a Mercedes and a 26-year-old later arrived at Auburn Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition.
  • At the hospital, a 30-year-old man allegedly punched a 58-year-old chief inspector in the head, was charged with assaulting police, had bail refused for a court appearance on Thursday, and detectives appealed for dashcam or CCTV footage to aid the Strike Force Skrit inquiry.
