Overview
- Crime Branch teams intercepted a vehicle near Sector 39 around 6 am on January 21, and after the occupants allegedly opened fire, police shot and injured two suspects and detained a third.
- The injured men were identified as Rahul and Rocky, also known as Ricky or Deval Sharma, while the third accused, Kulwinder Singh alias Preet, was arrested at the spot and the WagonR they used was seized.
- Police said the module was coordinated by Saba of Gobindgarh from abroad, with recoveries including three pistols, live rounds, narcotic drugs such as amphetamine and opium, and multiple FIRs under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Arms Act and NDPS Act.
- Earlier, alleged mastermind and lab owner Rahul Bisht was arrested with heroin, opium, a firearm and electronic evidence, and he is accused of supplying target details and recruiting the shooters after contacting Saba via Signal.
- Investigators linked the suspects to a shooting at a Jalandhar property dealer’s vehicle and an attempted car snatching in Derabassi, reported that an ASI’s bulletproof jacket stopped a round during the encounter, and said they are probing a suspected police personnel associate and expect further arrests.
