- Rabbi Shmuly Altein died after a multi-year illness on Thursday, June 18, 2026, the day of Gimmel Tammuz in the Jewish calendar.
- His levaya was held in New York on Friday and the procession passed 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights before burial at Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens.
- Altein trained in Chabad institutions from age 13, studied at Chabad Mesivta in Detroit and Beis Medrash Oholei Torah in Crown Heights, and received smicha in 2006 from Rabbi Zalman Labkowsky.
