Overview
- The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District issued the interim bid on Wednesday and set construction to begin June 29, 2026 with substantial completion targeted within 60 days.
- Work will cover Buena Vista Drive, Western Way and the northbound approach of Hartzog Road and includes 1.5-inch milling and resurfacing, hydro blasting of the bridge deck, removal of a concrete traffic separator, new and relocated signal heads, median turn lane signal pedestals, conduit and pull boxes, pavement markings, and sign replacement.
- The project will be phased to keep traffic moving using maintenance-of-traffic plans and temporary lane closures rather than full road shutdowns, but commuters should expect longer travel times during morning and evening shift-change peaks.
- This interim package is a bridge solution and does not replace the separate long-term projects still in design that would elevate Buena Vista Drive over Western Way and widen Western Way from four to six lanes.
- Thousands of Cast Members who rely on the corridor can expect daily commute delays that may ripple into staffing and guest operations during the summer peak season, and drivers may want to plan extra travel time or use resort transit to avoid backups.
