CFE Rolls Out Free Mobile SIMs With 12-Month Service Under 'Internet para el Bienestar'

The rollout is being handled through local Bienestar calls and modules rather than a single national calendar.

Overview

  • Eligible recipients include beneficiaries of federal social programs, upper-secondary and higher-education students, and residents of priority communities.
  • Each activated SIM provides a year of service with a monthly package of 5 GB of data, 1,500 voice minutes and 500 SMS, and unused data does not carry over.
  • Applicants are generally asked to present official ID, CURP and proof of address, and must use an unlocked, compatible phone; minors require a birth certificate and CURP.
  • Distribution is announced regionally through convocatorias and temporary modules coordinated with Bienestar delegations, and authorities have not posted a unified national schedule.
  • After the 12-month free period ends the automatic package stops but the SIM remains usable, and users can continue service with CFE TEIT’s low-cost plans, which include options starting around 150 pesos available online.
