Cíes Sets Nearly 6,000 Easter Visits as Pier Reopens and Dune Work Scales

Officials call the holiday rush a test of balancing visitor demand with protection.

Overview

  • The Xunta disclosed Tuesday it had registered nearly 6,000 permits for Cíes and about 7,000 across the Illas Atlánticas for Easter visits.
  • Environment chief Ángeles Vázquez visited Cíes to inspect the Rodas pier, now fully operational after a €40,000 repair carried out with the Port Authority of Vigo.
  • The wooden walkway that shields the Rodas dunes will get urgent fixes before summer, with a full renewal planned for after the peak season following a timber purchase tender.
  • Under the Life Insular project, park staff with the universities of Vigo and Santiago are scaling up nursery-grown camarina for dune restoration, with about 2,300 plants expected soon after an earlier 80% survival from 300 plantings.
  • Ferry company Mar de Ons has added holiday routes from Vigo, Cangas, Sanxenxo, Portonovo, Baiona and Bueu, and entry still requires a free authorization requested on the Xunta website.
