Overview
- Sant Cugat approved a report finding the integration of Bellaterra into its municipality viable, which Cerdanyola criticized for how and when it was communicated, saying relations are at their worst.
- Cerdanyola’s mayor vowed to use all political, administrative and judicial avenues to oppose the segregation, warning it would set a very dangerous precedent for social cohesion and redistribution.
- The current phase stems from a June 2024 TSJC ruling that forced Cerdanyola to reopen the case and seek reports from affected administrations, including Sant Cugat.
- Regional bodies such as the Consell Comarcal, AMB and the Diputació advised that any boundary change should be based on an agreement between municipalities, a consensus that does not exist.
- The Generalitat will make the final decision later this year, likely after the summer, with key legal questions unresolved over the future status of Bellaterra’s EMD if annexation proceeds.
