- The Supreme Court was told on Friday that the Union government is examining a uniform policy to cover private CBSE students in West Asia whose Class XII results were not declared after exams were cancelled.
- CBSE cancelled Class XII exams in seven West Asian countries and issued a March 27 assessment scheme that uses school-held marks from quarterly, half-yearly and pre-board tests to declare results for affected students.
- The petitioner, Pransu Jigarkumar Patel, a private candidate in Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, was shown as 'R.L. (Result Later)' when results were published and says the delay cost him a June 1 deadline for a B.Tech admission.
- CBSE told the Court that the March 27 assessment requires schools to supply records and that many private candidates lack such school-held assessment files, creating the core practical gap the government now seeks to address.
- The Supreme Court has adjourned the petition to June 22 to allow the Centre time to place its proposed policy on record, and the policy’s scope and timeline will determine whether students receive assessed marks or fresh exams.
