Centre Says 1,647 km of BengalBangladesh Border Is Fenced as Land Delays Stall Pending Work

A Rajya Sabha reply pegs 569.004 km unfinished, with most feasible segments awaiting state acquisition despite central reviews and released payments.

  • Of the unfinished length, 112.780 km is classified as non-feasible and 456.224 km is feasible for fencing and border infrastructure.
  • Within the feasible portion, land for 77.935 km has been handed over to the executing agency and 378.289 km remains to be acquired.
  • Acquisition has not begun for 148.971 km, with another 229.318 km in various stages including 31.019 km awaiting state cabinet approval and 7.085 km awaiting valuation.
  • The Centre says it is holding regular meetings, conducting review visits and releasing payments, including funds for 181.635 km that have not yet resulted in land handover.
  • From 1 January 2023 to 31 July 2025, authorities reported 3,964 apprehensions and large seizures of narcotics, cattle, Phensedyl, Yaba tablets, gold and fake currency along the West Bengal stretch.
