Overview
- The Centre, which accepted Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s request Tuesday, directed the Food Corporation of India to restart wheat purchases in the Capital.
- Procurement will begin April 24 at two sites in Delhi, the FCI depot in Narela and the Najafgarh mandi, with a village-wise schedule to follow.
- About 21,000 farmers are expected to benefit, and sellers must bring an Aadhaar card, land records, and a bank passbook to complete sales at the centres.
- The move ends a pause since the 2021–22 season and activates buying for the 2026–27 rabi marketing cycle in Delhi.
- Local buying is meant to ensure the Minimum Support Price, the government-set floor for crops, reduce long hauls to other states, and feed grain into Delhi’s public ration system.
