Centre Clears ₹887-Crore Mumbai Marina, Tenders Close December 29

A hybrid model assigns core works to the Mumbai Port Authority, leaving onshore development to a private operator.

Overview

  • The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways approved the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina with a total outlay of ₹887 crore.
  • Funding is split between about ₹470 crore for Mumbai Port Authority EPC works and about ₹417 crore for a private developer focused on onshore facilities.
  • Tenders have been issued with bids due on December 29, after which authorities plan bid evaluation and selection of the private operator.
  • Located at Cross Island in Mumbai Harbour, the marina spans nearly 12 hectares and will berth 424 yachts up to 30 metres.
  • Core works include an approach trestle, piled breakwater, service platforms, floating pontoons and gangways, while onshore plans cover a terminal, sailing school, tourism centre, hotel and clubhouse, skill centre, and yacht stacking and repair facilities with more than 2,000 jobs expected.
