Centre Approves DelhiFaridabad MEMU Commuter Train

Train numbers are set with the launch still awaiting final clearances.

Overview

  • Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw approved the DelhiFaridabad MEMU on Friday, following a request from Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
  • A Railway Board note dated April 27 assigns train numbers 64038 and 64037 for daily operation, with a 12‑car rake from the Delhi–Shamli service identified as a possible allocation.
  • The board’s proposal lists a Delhi departure at 10:30 am with Faridabad arrival at 11:45 am, and a 2 pm return reaching Delhi at 3:45 pm.
  • The route is set to run via Sadar Bazar, New Delhi, Shivaji Bridge, Tilak Bridge, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Okhla and Tuglakabad, while final schedule, frequency and start date remain pending.
  • Officials say the electric multiple-unit design accelerates quickly and suits frequent stops, which could cut road and metro crowding for office-goers and students who report long daytime gaps on current local trains.
